Gboard gets a surprise update on Wear OS

Google only dropped a surprise update to the Gboard app on Wear OS. The new update brings a new layout and looks similar to the Gboard on the best Android phones, while also bringing some new features and improvements to the experience.

The keyboard now comes with a black background instead of the gray-ish tone found on the previous version. It also replaces some design and layout elements with larger, more pronounced buttons. You can see the difference between the two versions below:

The circular language button no longer exists and has been moved to the space bar. Now pressing and holding the large space bar will reveal language and input options similar to the behavior of a smartphone app. And when you want a preview of what you type, you can swipe down from the top of your watch display, and you'll get a larger view of your message.

For work suggestions the bar has been changed to make it easier to access input methods such as voice, number and emojis. Suggestions and improvements have also been enhanced and this will make it easier for users to scroll and search for the word they want.

Wear OS already had decent text input, but the new update should improve things further and bring the app experience closer to the smartphone counterpart. Google says that the update should be made faster and easier and that it should be available soon:

We are excited for the Wear OS community to update this in the coming days. We can't wait to tell what else Google has in store for Wear OS in 2021!

With Google I / O 2021 coming to a close, it is expected that Google will discuss Wear OS to some extent, but this suggests that there are more updates on the way for the platform.

It seems that many users have already visited the best Wear OS watches like Mobvoi TicWatch Pro 3 GPS. The update comes at 12.81MB.
