How to choose default hard drive for PS4 game on PS5

Source: Jennifer Locke / Android Central

With 825GB SSD, every gigabyte of space on your PS5 is valuable.  So you don't want to ruin it with PS4 games, especially when PS5 games should be played from their internal SSDs.  To make your life easier so that you don't have to constantly move games back and forth, you can set the external hard drive as your default drive for PS4 game downloads.  This is easy to do, and should save you a lot of time.  It may not be as fast as the PS5's SSD, but an external drive can play PS4 games just fine.

Step 1 : Turn on your PS5.

Step 2 : Plug a compatible external hard drive into the back USB Type-A port (the front USB port will not work because it is not superspeed).

Step 3 : go to Settings

Step 4 : Select  to Storage

Can I choose a default hard drive for a PS5 game?

Unfortunately, it does not appear that you can select the default hard drive for PS5 games at this time.  Although a recent update made it possible to store PS5 games on external drives, they can still be played only from internal SSDs.  If you need to move PS5 games between an internal drive and an external one, you can transfer them individually or in bulk.  Thankfully, you won't have to break the bank on some of the best external drives and SSDs for the PS5.  You can grab something for less than $ 100.

We would recommend an external SSD because they are fast, but an HDD works fine (and is usually cheaper, anyway).  As long as it connects to USB and has a capacity of at least 250GB, you should be good.
